Egypt has historically bought sesame from Sudan, Ethiopia and Nigeria. Supply disruption in Sudan, freight uncertainty in the Red Sea and stricter food-safety inspection have pushed Egyptian processors to diversify. Importers in Cairo, Alexandria, 10th of Ramadan and Borg El Arab work with Kohenoor International because:
Egypt consumes sesame on an industrial scale. Tahini is a daily staple; halawa tahiniya is a national confectionery exported across the Gulf, Europe and North America; simsimiya and sesame-topped bread (semit, fino) run through every bakery. Large processors in Greater Cairo, Alexandria and the 10th of Ramadan and Sadat industrial cities import hulled and natural sesame year-round, while regional traders re-export finished tahini and halawa throughout the Arab world. Domestic sesame from Sohag, Assiut and Minya is prized but limited, so imports fill most of the gap.
The traditional origins — Sudan above all — have become unreliable since 2023, and Egyptian buyers now qualify second and third sources as a matter of policy. Pakistani sesame fits: similar white-seed profile, high oil content, sea transit of under two weeks, and a supplier that already ships into Egypt’s Nafeza customs system. Kohenoor International supplies tahini plants and importers with natural white and hulled grades, full documentation and a Certificate of Analysis for every lot.
Tahini plants need high-oil, light-coloured seed for maximum paste yield and the pale, smooth product Egyptian brands are known for.
Halawa producers need consistent roasting behaviour and clean seed for texture and shelf life in domestic and export packs.
Industrial and artisan bakeries topping bread and rings with whole sesame need even, bright seed.
Sweet makers need metal-detected, low-admixture lots that caramelise evenly.
Oil pressers producing sesame oil for cooking and cosmetics need maximum oil yield per tonne.
Trading houses supplying processors and re-exporting to the Gulf and Levant need mixed-grade containers with buyer branding.

All sea imports into Egypt must be pre-registered on the Nafeza single-window platform to obtain an Advance Cargo Information Declaration (ACID) number before loading, and food consignments are inspected by the National Food Safety Authority (NFSA) and plant quarantine (CAPQ) on arrival. Every Kohenoor consignment to Egypt includes:
For an Egyptian tahini plant, an unreliable origin means stopped lines and lost export orders. Kohenoor International has shipped into Egypt and across the Arab world for decades and supplies a second-source origin that clears Nafeza without surprises.
Our standard MOQ for Egyptian buyers is 5 metric tons. Tahini and halawa producers typically order 18-19 MT (20ft FCL) or multiple containers under a seasonal contract; volume pricing applies from one FCL.
Yes. Our natural white sesame has the light colour, clean flavour and 48-52% oil content that tahini and halawa production needs; hulled white sesame is available for premium lines. Samples are couriered so your plant can run a trial batch before ordering.
Typically 10-12 days to Ain Sokhna and 11-15 days to Port Said, Alexandria or Damietta. Allow 7-10 days for processing and booking, so total lead time from order to arrival is about 3-4 weeks.
Yes. We register the shipment documents through CargoX to the Nafeza platform in coordination with your importer account so the ACID number is issued before loading, as Egyptian customs requires. Invoice, packing list and certificates are matched to the submission to avoid holds at the port.
We accept irrevocable letters of credit at sight from Egyptian banks and T/T payments (30% with the order, 70% against the bill of lading copy). Prices are quoted in USD, FOB Karachi, CFR or CIF Ain Sokhna / Port Said / Alexandria.
